We recently applied some branding to our work vehicle (see image on right) & i thought I’d take this opportunity to highlight some pointers worth considering when branding your own company vehicles. As you may or my not know, at Lifetime Media Solutions we offer car branding as part of our branding services and we’ve learned a thing or two (sometimes by bumping our head hard) about how to brand vehicles effectively.

A Focus On Services

Its important that people out there connect your brand with the services you offer. We’ve come across many instances were companies have done a wonderful job in terms of attracting attention to their brand with well designed, eye-catching vehicle signage only to receive comments like, “We’ve seen you around but what do you do?”. The human brain has this amazing ability to connect imagery with information at a single glance so, like in the picture above, we’ve tried to make sure that people know what services we offer, taking care not have this valuable information drowned out by the rest of the elements in the signage design.

Watch Out For Noisy Design

Ensure that your car branding remains uncluttered and that the most important bits of information (e.g. logo, services, contact details) are easily identifiable without other design elements demanding the viewers attention. In the above example we wanted to give the overall design a bit of creative flair by incorporating some aesthetic design elements in a subtle manner to add a bit of “background music”, however, we still took care not to detract from the main marketing messages.

Box Clever

You don’t have to spend thousands on blasting signage over every surface area of your vehicle for the branding to be effective. “Loud” signage has its benefits but in the case of the above we opted to place our signage in an area that would demand attention – our backside (LOL). Jokes aside, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that this is the most visible area of a vehicle, especially when you’re waiting at a traffic intersection.

Poor Materials

Make sure you shop around for companies that only use high quality vinyl in their car branding applications. There aren’t many things worse than seeing your hard earned cash being flushed down the toilet by peeling vinyl after one year. It leaves a poor reflection on your business so its worth spending extra on quality – you save in the long run.

Kitch Design

Seriously, don’t try this at home – its money well spent hiring a good graphic design company to create professional & aesthetic car branding designs. Poor design can do your business more harm than good.
